On Jan.8th, the 2017 National Science and Technology Award Conference was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Xi Jinping presented award certificates to the prize winners, other leaders, including Li Keqiang, Zhang Gaoli and Wang Huning, were also present at the ceremony.

Peking University either as the Principal Investigator or the first affiliation of the PI, won seven awards, including three National Natural Science Awards (Second Class), one National Award for Technological Invention (Second Class) and three National Science and Technology Progress Awards (Second Class). Among them, the Project “Analysis and Control of Networked Dynamic Systems” won the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award, and Prof. Guangming Xie, the leader of PKU College of Engineering Intelligence Biomimetic Design Lab, is the second author.

With the increasing scale of engineering systems, a large number of physical devices are connected as nodes to dynamically evolve networks through various communication methods and form a dynamic network system. The existing control theories and methods can no longer fully adapt to its development and changes, so it is urgent to develop new methods for network dynamic systems. The project “Analysis and Control of Networked Dynamic Systems” contributed on a comprehensive and in-depth study of several core fundamental issues in the collaborative control of networked dynamic systems from the aspects of node dynamics, dynamic performance, structured attributes, and network effects, etc. It provides a theoretical foundation and key technologies for the development of collaborative control of networked dynamic systems.

Background Information:

The National Science and Technology Awards are reviewed once a year, including the National Natural Science Award, the National Technology Invention Award, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award, which is what we are used to saying as the “National Three Awards.” In addition, it also includes the People's Republic of China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award awarded to foreign scientists or foreign organizations, as well as the heaviest national highest science and technology award.

According to the relevant provisions of the “Proposal on Deepening the Reform of Science and Technology Reward System” recently released in May 2017, the total number of awards for each of the three major awards does not exceed 300 items per year.
