PhD positions in biomimetic robotics at Peking University (PKU), China
 
 
One or more PhD positions with the start date of Fall 2022 are open in Intelligent Biomimetic Design Lab (https://en.ibdl.pku.edu.cn) at Peking University, China. The students will work under Prof. Guangming Xie in the general research area of biomimetic robotics.
 
 
Prof. Guangming Xie received the B.S. degrees in applied mathematics and electronic and computer technology, the M.E. degree in control theory and control engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in control theory and control engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1996, 1998, and 2001, respectively. He is currently a Professor of Dynamics and Control with the College of Engineering, Peking University. He has been engaged in the research of complex dynamic systems and control, intelligent bionic robot, and multi-robot cooperation. He has hosted a number of key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and published more than 100 SCI-index academic papers in journals including Nature Communications, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Automatica. Since 2014, he has been listed in ‘Highly Cited Chinese Researchers’ for seven consecutive years, and has been selected into ‘World's Top 2% Scientists 2020’. Prof. Xie leads his lab, Intelligent Biomimetic Design Lab, to develop various intelligent bionic underwater robots and make a number of achievements in bionic control, bionic perception, bionic communication, bionic grasping and bionic swarming. He has won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award and the first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education.
 
REQUIREMENTS
 
The applicant should have the following qualifications:
- A strong academic background and a Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, Materials Science, or related fields;
- Capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail, good analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Personal suitability, proactive attitude, good teamwork skills, scientific ambition, motivation, and strong interest in cutting-edge research;
- Good command of the English language and communication skills.
 
The applicant must meet all the requirements of the PhD Programme at the College of Engineering, Peking University.
